Sciton Laser FAQs Answered

What Is a Sciton Laser?

Sciton lasers are one of the most advanced lasers in the world. This one of the treatments this type of laser was designed for is to effectively and safely eliminate unwanted hair. Physicians and clients alike trust the Sciton name because the company has a long-standing track record of excellence, safety, and reliability. It is our honor to share this cutting-edge technology with you.

What Is the Sciton Laser Used for?

Sciton laser treatments are incredibly versatile. For example, Sciton lasers can be used to rejuvenate the skin, reverse sun damage, improve skin tone, treat vascular issues, and eliminate unwanted hair.

Can Unwanted Hair Be Removed From Anywhere?

You can remove unwanted hair from virtually anywhere. The only place you can’t receive treatment is around your eyes. However, it is most commonly used to eliminate unwanted hair from the bikini region, upper lip, legs, and back.  There are alternative hair removal methods, but none of them provide long-lasting results like the results of laser hair removal.

How Can This Treatment Benefit Me?

People are often embarrassed by unwanted hair and find their self-confidence decrease when they don’t have time to shave. If your unwanted hair is on your back, thighs, chest, or arms, you may find that you don’t go swimming or wear certain clothes so you can take a break from shaving, waxing, tweezing, or using a depilatory cream. If your unwanted hair is on your face, you may feel a little anxious in the workplace.

You may also feel self-conscious when meeting new people. Tweezing, waxing, and shaving only treat unwanted hair for a brief period of time. While the unwanted hair is gone, your self-confidence is increased, but these hair removal methods cause unwanted side effects, like itching, burning, pain, discomfort, and razor bumps. On the other hand, the results of laser hair removal will last for years at a time without side effects.

How Effective Is This Treatment?

This treatment is incredibly effective. It can be used safely and effectively to remove unwanted hair from anywhere except around the eyes, and the results last for years. In some cases, this treatment is so effective the results last for a lifetime. However, it is possible that future hair growth will occur if extreme hormone shifts occur. If hair regrows one day, it will be thinner, lighter, and much sparser than it was before your series of treatments.

How Should I Prepare for This Treatment?

Come In for a Consultation

Come in for a consultation to discuss your areas of concern and aesthetic goals. We will walk you through the process, including how many sessions you can expect to need to achieve your aesthetic goals and how long each session should take. We are here to answer all of your questions to ensure this treatment is appropriate for you. We can also answer any questions you have at any point in the process, even once your treatment session is over.

During your initial consultation, one of our aesthetic experts will meet with you one-on-one. In addition to asking you about your goals and answering all of your questions, we will discuss your lifestyle, history of skin problems, and the medications you currently use. We also need to know about how you currently deal with your unwanted hair. After that, we will take photographs of your problem areas so you can easily see how well the treatment is working.

Stop Tanning

To prepare for your treatment, you must take steps to ensure your skin is as light as possible when you come in for your treatment. The greater the contrast there is between your skin and hair color, the more effective you can expect this treatment to be.

Stop using tanning creams or other cosmetics that darken your skin for a couple of weeks before your treatment. Also, minimize the amount of time you spend outside in the sun as much as possible, and wear sunscreen diligently.

Stop Using Certain Hair Removal Techniques

It is of the utmost importance that your hair follicles are healthy at the time of your appointment. Therefore, you should not wax or pluck your hair before your laser hair removal session. Waxing and plucking irritate your hair follicles and may affect the efficacy of your Sciton laser treatment. However, it is okay to shave the day before your session.

Shave

As noted above, it is okay to shave the day before your scheduled appointment. In fact, it is an advisable part of the preparation process. Just make sure you use shaving cream without irritating fragrances and a sharp razor to prevent skin irritation.

What Can I Expect During the Treatment Process?

On the day of your treatment session, you will receive specially designed eye protection regardless of the areas targeted for treatment. Depending on the area being treated, we may apply a topical numbing cream to your skin to keep it comfortable.

Once your skin is prepared for treatment, we will press the Sciton laser hand piece gently against your skin. The laser will emit a pulse of light energy that targets the dark follicle of actively growing hair follicles which destroys the follicle. As a result of this damage, the hair follicles will release the actively growing hair and will no longer grow new hairs.

Is This Treatment Safe?

This laser targets the dark pigmentation present in actively growing hair follicles, not the lighter surrounding skin.  Therefore, there is very minimal risk of any skin burning or discoloration.

How Long Does This Treatment Take?

The length of your treatment session will depend on the size of the areas you are targeting your treatment. Your entire treatment process may take only 15 minutes if you’re eliminating chin, upper lip, or underarm hair.

If you’re removing unwanted hair from your chest, back, or legs, your session will take much longer. If you’re treating several large areas, your session may take an hour or two. Also, the thickness of your hair and the density of your active hair follicles will affect how long the treatment will take.

How Should I Care for My Skin After My Laser Hair Removal Session?

Once your treatment is over, it is very important to minimize the amount of time you spend in direct sunlight. Also, you will need to wear a broad-spectrum sunscreen with a high sun protection factor and reapply it regularly. Finally, it is very important to not use tanning beds or topical tanning products until your course of treatments is complete.

How Many Treatment Sessions Will I Need?

How many sessions you will need depends on several factors, including the areas being targeted for treatment, the contrast between your skin and hair color, the thickness of the targeted hair, and how close together the hair follicles in the targeted area are.

Remember, this treatment is more effective when there is greater contrast between your skin and hair color. If you have pale skin and blonde or red hair, you will need more treatment sessions to achieve your desired aesthetic. You will need fewer treatment sessions if you are only trying to thin out your hair rather than eliminating all of the hair in the treatment areas.
