Our GLP-1 prescription weight loss program:
Since Wegovy and Zepbound have come off the FDA drug shortage list, both of the drug companies who make them have recognized the need to provide their medication at a more affordable price to patients who don’t qualify for insurance coverage. Madison Medispa partners with their direct to consumer programs to provide prescription medication at a 50% price reduction, making access to these brand name medications more affordable than ever before!

What They Are:
Wegovy and Zepbound are glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonists. GLP-1 is a hormone naturally produced in the intestines after eating, and it plays a crucial role in regulating blood sugar levels. Zepbound also acts on glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP), which can make it slightly more effective in some patients.
How Wegovy and Zepbound Work for Weight Loss:
Several factors are believed to contribute to both medications effectiveness for weight loss. 1. Reduced appetite: GLP-1 medication appears to act on the brain’s appetite center, leading to decreased feelings of hunger and increased feelings of fullness or satiety. This can result in reduced food intake and ultimately lead to weight loss. 2. Slower stomach emptying: GLP-1 medication can slow down the emptying of the stomach, which may contribute to increased feelings of fullness and reduced food intake. 3. Decreased calorie absorption: These drugs may also reduce the absorption of calories from food in the intestines, leading to fewer calories being absorbed by the body.
How It’s Used:
Wegovy and Zepbound are given as an injection just under the skin, once a week. Initially, these injections are supervised by a physician, but once you are comfortable doing your own injection, you will do them at home. Patients are started at 0.25mg per week when using Wegovy, or 2.5mg when using Zepbound, and dosage is increased every 2-4 weeks until you are losing 1-2 lbs. per week.
