Questions About Cost

Many patients contact Madison Medispa wanting to know the cost of their vein treatment before being seen by our physician. While we completely understand the importance of budgeting for your care, the truth is that treatment costs can vary widely based on multiple factors. It’s nearly impossible to provide an accurate estimate without first completing a personal consultation and physical evaluation.

Key factors that influence vein treatment costs include:

  • The number and size of veins requiring treatment
  • The type of procedure(s) best suited to your condition
  • The number of treatment sessions needed
  • Your insurance coverage, including deductibles, exclusions, and in-network vs. out-of-network benefits

Because of these many variables, providing an upfront treatment quote without an in-person evaluation would be speculative and potentially misleading.

Pre-Treatment Cost Estimate

After your initial consultation, our office manager will carefully review your insurance policy and discuss coverage directly with your insurance representative. Once this step is complete, we’ll provide you with a clear estimate.

At Madison Medispa, we believe in full price transparency—you’ll always know your expected out-of-pocket costs before starting treatment. This ensures there are no unexpected surprises along the way.

In-Network vs. Out-of-Network Benefits

Many patients have questions about in-network versus out-of-network benefits. While some people try to minimize costs by choosing an in-network provider, this approach doesn’t always lead to savings—especially when the provider isn’t a dedicated vein specialist.

We often see patients who seek out “in-network” options thinking it will be cheaper, but end up paying extra for unnecessary tests, being placed under general anesthesia (almost never required for vein treatment), or even spending nights in the hospital. Even when paying an in-network deductible, these extra services add up quickly.

Those patients later come to us for follow-up or corrective procedures because their initial treatments were improperly performed. When all costs are ultimately calculated, choosing an experienced vein specialist—like the team at Madison Medispa—it is often more cost-effective and achieves better long-term results.

Frequently Asked Questions About Vein Treatments

What happens at a consultation?

We will ask you to fill out a brief medical history form concerning your general health and your vein problem.

If you are coming in for your leg veins, a screening ultrasound evaluation of both legs will be done to determine what, if any, vein problems are present. Your areas of concern will be examined and all your questions will be answered. We will discuss what it is that you want to accomplish and how best to achieve your goals.

All possible treatment options will be explained to you, not just the treatments that we provide. Should you select a procedure that we do not perform, we will attempt to refer you to a reliable physician experienced in that procedure. Whatever you decide is fine, but we want you to make an educated choice.

Your consult will last about 60 minutes.

Will insurance cover my treatment?

If you are coming in for purely cosmetic purposes, no. If, however, you are having symptoms or other complications related to your vein disease, vein treatment procedures are often reimbursed by insurance and Medicare, and you may be eligible for benefits. This will be determined on a case by case basis, and will depend on your individual insurance policy. We can never guarantee coverage. Whatever the case may be, we will inform you about what you can expect financially PRIOR to beginning your treatment, and our billing specialist will work with you and your insurance provider to expedite this process.

Don't I need these veins? Where does that blood go? What happens to my circulation?

No you don’t need them. You have miles of superficial veins in your leg, and what we will treat is just a small fraction of the total. Moreover, your vein disease did not develop overnight. In most cases, it will have taken years to get to the point at which you begin to consider treatment. Therefore, your body has literally had years to redirect the venous blood flow in your leg into the miles of good veins. When we treat your broken veins, and alleviate the back pressure coming down the leg in the wrong direction, your circulation will improve!

What if I need a coronary artery bypass? Won't the doctor need this vein?

The greater saphenous vein (along the inseam of your leg) is often used for bypass surgery, but only if it is a normal vein, not if it is a varicose vein. There are multiple alternative vessels to use for bypass grafting.

I am on Coumadin or another blood thinner. Can I be treated?

Yes, in most cases. The procedures we perform are so minimally invasive that there is no significant blood loss associated with them. Therefore, most patients will not have to stop their blood thinners around the time of treatment.

Another doctor said my only option was surgical stripping, and that nothing else will work. Is this true?

This is almost always false. Most patients now have multiple successful options available for their treatment, all of which are much less invasive than surgical stripping.

I have massive, ropey clusters of varicose veins all the way down my leg. Will they actually disappear?

Yes. The leg can be significantly disfigured from varicose veins. In nearly all patients, all of the large, bulging veins will vanish and the normal contour of the leg will be restored following treatment.

I love to exercise. Are there any limitations following treatment?

Yes, but only for a short period of time. For small vein treatment, strenuous exertion is not allowed for the rest of the day. For large varicose veins, we usually restrict strenuous exercise for about 1-2 weeks. Fitness can be maintained by walking, which is encouraged during this time.

You say I have large varicose vein disease, but I just want the small veins treated. Why won't you do that?

Large varicose veins are high-pressure veins flowing backwards down the leg. Even if they are not visible from the skin surface, this high-pressure, reverse flow tends to back up into smaller vessels, enlarging them. For the majority of patients with large and small vein disease, proceeding with treatment of the small veins prior to treating the large, underlying vessels will only lead to short-term, unsatisfactory results at best. At worst, it may lead to poor cosmetic results with extensive discoloration of the skin, more veins than you began with, and the waste of a significant amount of your time and money.

I'm planning to have more children. Should I wait to begin treatment?

Pregnancy can cause multiple problems with varicose veins. In most cases, having them treated before your next pregnancy will be to your benefit, and reduce the risk of possible complications during your next pregnancy. Even if additional veins develop with your next pregnancy, they will typically be fewer in number and easily treated following the birth of your child.

Do I have to wear compression socks following treatment?

Compression stockings are needed for 1 week after endovenous thermal ablation, and 2-4 weeks after ultrasound-guided foam sclerotherapy or ambulatory micro-phlebectomy.

If you’re looking for a new med spa, this is the place! I’ve had a lot of facials at various different med spas over the years, and this is the best place I’ve been. I went to Melissa for a series of chemical peels, and she’s amazing! She customizes your treatment to your skin’s needs, and I’ve truly never seen greater results. Tracy works the front office and is also wonderful. I can’t say enough good things about these ladies and this office. 100/10 recommend. You’ll be glad you did!

I was bothered by the spider veins on my legs for the past 30 years. Every year they would get worse and worse. My legs literally looked like a road map. I had tried saline injections and laser treatments at other medical facilities but nothing worked. Then last year I just decided to look up spider vein treatment options and came across Dr. Erdman's Medispa. I went in for a consult and he said he could help me. I signed up for it. I had a total of 6 treatment and my legs are vein free!! I live 1 hour away but it was worth it. Yesterday I wore shorts for the first time since my treatments and it felt so good to be free of those unsightly spider veins! If you're even thinking about having your spider veins treated by Dr. Erdman don't even hesitate and don't worry about a thing. You'll never regret it! I'm so happy to have my legs vein free! ❤️

I am thrilled to have found Medispa in Waunakee. My skin has always been so dry and the much needed Facial hydration is what I needed. Melissa was exceptionally informative step by step. Highly recommended!

Melissa and the entire team at Madison MediSpa were really great to work with! Melissa created a relaxing, tailored session to address my problem areas. I walked out feeling like my skin was brighter, clearer, and softer. I rarely treat myself to facial services, but this has now become a part of my self care! Thank you!

The services at the Madison Medispa are top of the line, but that is not the only thing I love!! The staff are all very welcoming, knowledgeable about the products, helpful, and genuinely care for their clients and patients. I recently had a couple of facials with Melissa, and she is absolutely wonderful. She made me feel comfortable each and every step of the way, from the minute I stepped in the room. She told me what to expect with each product and was spot on. Coming from someone who doesn't always feel comfortable showing my imperfections, the attention and care I received from her and the rest of the staff is simply the best. 5 star rating!

I went to Madison Medispa, unsure what to expect and super nervous. When I got there, staff greeted me and got me back to see Angie right away. She made me feel so comfortable throughout my entire experience and provided answers to all questions I had. She took her time to ensure I understood the procedure and gave me the cost of everything up front. She never pushed me to buy more product, and actually did the opposite, stating “we can always add more, but we can’t take any away”. She followed up with me personally the next day to ask me how I was doing. I am extremely pleased with my results. I went back for a follow-up appointment, and became even more pleased after that visit. I will be returning to see Angie and I will be scheduling other procedures as well. I highly recommend Madison Medispa and Angie in particular!

Melissa did an incredible job with my recent two facials! She spent the time listening to what my skin goals were and ensuring she was aligned with the right products & services to meet those skin goals. She cares about her patients and is easy to chat with throughout your service if you like that. I couldn't recommend her services enough!
